With deep love and sorrow, the family of Delia Maria Fernandez announces her peaceful passing on August 20, 2025. On that day, Delia went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she faithfully believed in and trusted as her personal Redeemer.
Delia was predeceased by her beloved sons, the late George Colon and Edwin Colon. She was the devoted mother of Johnny Colon, Betsy Colon, and Sonia Fernandez. She also welcomed into her heart and family her cherished daughter-in-law, Rose, and her sons-in-law, Hector and Gabriel.
She was the proud grandmother of George Michael, Jessie Ray, Jonathan, Jason, Sonia, Mauricio, Amelia, and Gabriel, and the cherished great-grandmother of Ethan, David, Ariella, Alessia, Sofia, Judah, Valentina, Moises, Ava Marie, and Hugo. She was also like a second mother to her niece Wilma Vento, loving and guiding her with the same care and faith she gave her children.
Delia was a loving sister to Julio, José, Felo, Angélica, Ana, Juan, Digna, Raquel, and Toño, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and family bonds.
Her legacy is defined by her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, her strength, and the love she poured into her family. She will be remembered for her devotion to her Savior and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
Her Legacy of Faith:
Delia Maria Fernandez was a mighty woman of faith, a true prayer warrior, and a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
The eldest of ten children, she lived as a shining example of devotion to Christ. As a single mother, she carried the weight of responsibility with grace, raising her family with unwavering faith, deep love, and remarkable strength.
She was a devoted member of the Disciples of Christ Spanish Christian Church, serving faithfully as an usher, board member, choir member, and prayer leader. Through every season — rain, snow, or bitter cold — she rose before the sun to attend Aposentamientos: sacred mornings of prayer, fasting, and devotion before the Lord. These gatherings were the heartbeat of her spiritual life and a lasting testimony of her faith.
Her home reflected the same spirit. It was a sanctuary of prayer, worship, and the Word of God. By her daily example, she taught the truth of Scripture:
“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish.” — Psalm 92:13
Beyond her service to the church and her family, Delia worked diligently as a machinist for CTA. Through her hard work, she provided not only material support, but also a home overflowing with faith, perseverance, and joy.
Her life was a living sermon — one of kindness, endurance, and steadfast love for Christ. Delia’s faith and legacy will live on in all who were blessed to know her. She has finished her race with endurance and now rests in the eternal embrace of her Savior.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” — Psalm 116:15
A visitation for Delia will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 9-11AM at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago, Illinois, 60625. A funeral service will occur at 11AM. Burial will take place immediately after, in the Parkside section of Rosehill Cemetery off of Peterson Ave.
