Donald Joseph Pezzuto, aged 77, died suddenly Sunday, September, 27, 2026 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Cynthia (nee Vorderer) and his daughters Tracy (Jason), Lisa, Michelle (Tim), and Kristen (Jerry). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Benjamin (Anna), Isabella (Dani), Samuel Joseph (named for “Papa”), Henry, Elena, and Lucas as well as his beloved sister, Donna. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Marie Pezzuto.
Donald was a devoted husband, having been married to Cynthia for over 53 years. He was also a loving father to his four girls, for whom he would do anything. He later showed that same love and commitment to his six grandchildren. He would make up stories for them, draw with them, and play outside with them. He especially appreciated seeing his grandkids eat a big meal, quoting his own father in saying they were “good eaters." He loved seeing how big his grandkids were growing, telling them they’d be “big like Papa.”
Donald dedicated his life to serving the public with a career in law enforcement. He was working as a court security officer at the Will County Sheriff’s Office until days prior to his passing. Earlier in his career, he worked for the Chicago Police Department, the State of Illinois, and numerous local departments. When not working, Donald appreciated the finer things in life, like reading nonfiction, waxing his car, eating “tasty” food, drinking red wine or coffee and tea, “resting his eyes” (napping), and single handedly keeping the Dollar Tree in business.
Don will be missed terribly by his wife, sister, and the many friends he made throughout the years; Dad will be missed by his daughters; Papa will be missed by his grandchildren. Donald Pezzuto is a man no one can ever replace.
Join us in celebrating his life with visitation at Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, 4-8PM. Procession for burial will start on Friday at 10:30 AM from Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home to Interment at Saint Mary Cemetery.
