We recently learned of the passing of our favorite sergeant, Don Vetrovec.   For many years, we worked with "The Sarge" as we fondly called him, on the Museum Campus.  He was such a kind, hard working, good person.  He was a good friend to us, always making sure we were safe in the early mornings and late evenings when we were opening and closing our business.  He had total control of the campus, and it hasn't been the same since he left.  We will miss him.  RIP Sarge.  With love - Kim and Carlo's Hot Dogs - Museum Campus Chicago. 

Retired Sgt Donald Vetrovec was a great leader, supervisor/coworker, and dear friend that will truly be missed.  I've known him for 22 years w/ the Police & Park District.

He was highly educated, full of knowledge, and expertise. 

He always encouraged others to follow his lead and/or to do more in life. 

If it wasn't for Don, I wouldn't be where I am today w/ a 2nd Master's degree, etc. 

Because of his motivational push, I will always cherish a hard working man, full of encouragement, team player, and leader.

I’ve known Don for most of my life, from High School through retirement.  He was always a conscientious and dependable supervisor in the police department.  He always had time for those he watched over and frequently went out of his way for them.  To his family, I express my condolences and may Don R.I.P.

 Don's father was a Sergeant in 014 in for many years and Don also was assigned there in the 1990's.  I was lucky to work with/for both of them.  Good men and good Supervisors. RIP

I remember Don as a fellow CPD Sergeant and member of "Chicago's Finest." Rest in Peace.

Condolences are extended to the family of Sgt. Donald Vetrovec on behalf of the Chicago Police Sergeants Association.  May his soul rest in peace.  

Don was my Sgt in the 014.  He  was always fair and patient with the wide variety of personalities he encountered.  From the lake front to the south side, I always seemed to run into him.  I hope he got to enjoy the fruits of his labor since he worked so much.  With his hat tilted back on his head and a cigarette in his mouth, he took care of his business.  He was a nice guy.
