A graduate of Eastern Illinois University, Edythe devoted her career to education, spending a lifetime in the classroom and leaving a lasting mark on the students she served. She was particularly passionate about advancing curriculum in food science and nutrition, and also served as a union chapter leader and dedicated volunteer, giving generously of her time through her sorority, church, and community.
From her earliest years growing up on a farm near Albion, Edythe was a devoted daughter who loved her parents dearly. She carried with her a spirit of openness, grace, and quiet strength throughout every chapter of her life. Though she spent much of her adult life in urban areas, she remained deeply connected to her Southern Illinois roots. She had a rare gift for forming and keeping friendships, and her table was always open. A wonderful cook and generous host, Edythe's love of food was rooted in her study of home economics at Eastern Illinois University and reflected in the care she showed to others.
Following retirement, Edythe returned to her hometown of Albion, where she and her husband shared a wonderful and fulfilling life together, and later made their home in West Palm Beach, Florida. In her later years, she lived in Evanston and Chicago, Illinois, where she made good friends and lived near her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She took great pride in her family, profession, community, and the many relationships she nurtured throughout her life.
A private burial service will be held in Southern Illinois.
