Elfriede Knabenschuh, 88, of Chicago died on January 30, 2023 at home after a long illness. She was born on October 4, 1934 in Hanau, West Germany and she grew up during WWII in Germany. After WWII ended, she emigrated to Chicago with her parents and sister. She worked at Meyer’s Delicatessen and other various jobs. She retired from Corus Bank in 1996 at the age of 62.
She and her late husband enjoyed travelling internationally and throughout the US. She was an avid Hummel collector and enjoyed water aerobics, gardening and baking. She and her late husband enjoyed ten years in a retirement community in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, before returning to Chicago.
Her beloved husband, Edward, died December 8, 2020, after 58 years of marriage. She is survived by daughter Monica (Timothy) Howard, son Robert (Nancy) Jaloveckas, grandmother of Joseph Howard, Sara Jaloveckas, and Eric Jaloveckas; loving sister in law of Waldemar (Elisabeth) Knabenschuh, Leo Knabenschuh, and Otto (Christa Kuennecke) Knabenschuh; loving brother in law Manfred (Ilona) Steffan; cherished aunt, cousin, and friend of many. Preceded in death by son Walter Jaloveckas ,her parents, Katherine and Heinrich Farr, and sister Ilona Steffan.
