ELIZABETH BARBARA FIALKOWSKI, "Betty", nee Plass. Born August 17, 1925 in Chicago Illinois, at rest May 31, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Walter Fialkowski. Devoted mother of Dr. William (Donna), Robert (Gwen), James, Mary Ann (Gregory Stevenson) , Virginia (Joseph Gordon) and Melanie. Cherished grandmother of Elizabeth, Allison, Edward, Laura and Michael Fialkowski, Kira Stevenson, and Stephanie and Joey Gordon. Lovingly cared for by Kerrie Cekus. Friend to many. Elizabeth was the epitome of the greatest generation. Born in the Logan Square neighborhood, Elizabeth survived childhood tuberculosis and went on to work in a World War II factory creating bomb sites for the war effort. While at a dance during the war she met the man that would become her husband- when he asked her to dance, and she accepted. That soldier shipped out to the Pacific theatre a week or so later and their war-time correspondence was right out of a romance novel. After she married her soldier at the end of the war, she bore and raised six children whom she loved and devoted her life to. We are truly blessed to have had such a selfless and loving mother. She was a loving grandmother and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and succeed. Our lives will be emptier without her, but her love and selfless example will sustain us. Elizabeth was also a fifty-eight year member of the St. Cornelius parish community, serving on the board of the Ladies Guild in various positions for many years. She was honored as their Woman of the Year in 2007. She enjoyed years of bowling at her Wednesday morning ladies league, and after she achieved her high school diploma later in life, she volunteered to help others do the same. Visitation Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 3pm to 9pm at Malec and Sons Funeral home, 6000 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago. Prayers Thursday June 4, 2015 at 9:15 AM from Malec to St. Cornelius Church, 5205 N. Lieb Avenue, Chicago, IL for a funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at St. Adalbert's cemetery, Niles, IL In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago, as Betty loved her dogs and cats, especially Ginger, Kahlua and Oskee who were her devoted friends and companions.
