Feli Z Villanueva, M.D., age 77 died peacefully at home on March 11, 2019. After a 2 year battle, he succumbed to cancer and its myriad complications. Feli was born on May 6, 1941 in Cebu City, Philippines to Felipe and Modesta Villanueva. He was one of 10 children and was born just before the start of WWII. Feli studied medicine and graduated from Southwestern University College of Medicine in 1966. He married his wife of almost 50 years, Ofelia, on November 16, 1969. Together they raised 3 daughters. They immigrated to the United States in 1973 first living in Detroit, MI and then finally settling in Chicago, IL. He was a pediatrician with a practice on the south side of Chicago. He enjoyed playing poker, visiting casinos (just for the free gifts, of course), loved his daily crossword puzzles and was interested in all things related to WWII. He loved to visit new places and travelled considerably with his family. After retirement, he cruised the world with his loving wife. Their last trip together was a cruise to Asia when he fulfilled his lifelong dream of seeing Japan. He was a devoted husband and father and an adoring grandfather to his 2 granddaughters. He tirelessly drove them to their many activities and was in the audience or stands cheering for them no matter how big or small the event. He was a loving brother and uncle, visiting far flung siblings and relatives whenever he could. Fel is survived by his beloved wife Ofelia, three wonderful daughters, Stephanie (Jim Woo), Tisha, and Melanie (Bryan Rodriguez) and the best Grandchildren Lily and Sophia Woo. Feli also survived by his brother Sincere Villanueva and sister Azucena Fong as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation on March 14, 2019 4:00-8:00 pm at Drake and Son Funeral Home (5303 N. Western, Chicago, IL 60625). Funeral and Burial on Friday March 15, 2019. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to University of Chicago Medicine (uchicagomedicine.org) or Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care (rainbowhospice.org).
