Florence Rosemary Zartler was born on May 15, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. From that day forward, she would be fondly known as “Sis”. She grew up on the northside and remained a resident of the area until the mid 70’s when she moved to Morton Grove, Illinois.
She began her career working in the hotel industry – a career that spanned over 60 years, eventually retiring from a part-time position in her late 80’s. She worked at some of Chicago’s great old hotels, including the Edgewater Beach Hotel, the Sheraton Towers and the Bismarck Hotel before heading to the Pick Congress Hotel where she spent much of her career, and for which she was most proud of. A hard worker, she had a second career as a waitress through the 60’s and 70’s at the famous Schwaben Stube Restaurant.
Growing up on the northside, she was one of the Chicago Cub’s most loyal fans. On any given weekend in the summertime, you could find Sis sitting in the backyard with her transistor radio next to her, listening to a Cub’s game.
Having no children of her own, she was a beloved Aunt to Nicholas Zartler, Corrine Rae Zartler, Russell Zartler (Kelly Dougherty), Lisa Zartler Koewler (partner Jose Carrasquillo), Jeffrey Zartler (Marji), John Zartler, and Karl Zartler (Lynnette). She was a fond great aunt to Korrina and Nicholas Zartler, Jr. (Jackie Hardin), Jonathon Koewler, and Ciera and Garret Zartler.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, Julius Zartler and mother, Rose Zartler Radtke (nee Baumstark), and her brother, Raymond Zartler (Patricia).
