Graciela “Grace” Guzman was born October 25, 1936 to mother, Altagracia Ríos, and father, Rosalío Avila in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. In 1955, Grace met Pablo Guzman. The two married in 1957 and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
In 1958 she and her family moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked in quality assurance for Zenith and raised four children, Maria “Marie” Guzman, Paul Guzman, Adolfo Guzman and Veronica Guzman (Teitz). When Grace retired from the workforce she focused her time on her six grandchildren, Stephanie, Natasha, Nina, Michael, Matthew and Karolyn.
Grace was an avid gardener, having the magic touch required to grow gorgeous gardens from Chicago to the arid deserts of California. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories of the small paradises she created. Grace was also an outstanding cook and baker and frequently heard the phrase, “qué hay de comer?”
Grace passed away at the age of 83 on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home to honor her memory.
