Gregory Stammich, beloved husband of Jane Rees, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on June 8th, 2026, at the age of 62. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love. He was a devoted father to Jennifer Stammich and Hilary (Ross) DeReu, and a proud Papa to Madeline and Jack Arthur, who brought immense joy to his life. He shared a special bond with the O'Donnell family, whose friendship meant so much to him.
Born to Marilynn and the late Ronald Stammich, Greg was a true North Side Chicagoan and proud of it. His Chicago roots shaped his character - friendly, hardworking, and loyal.
Greg was a man of endless enthusiasm and passion. He approached life with curiosity and an eagerness to share what he knew with those around him. Known for his long-winded stories and conversations, Greg had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. Whether sharing a fascinating fact, recounting an adventure, or offering his perspective on just about any topic, he could talk your ear off—and those who loved him wouldn’t have had it any other way.
A true and steadfast friend, Greg cherished the relationships he built throughout his life. His friends knew they could always count on him, and he valued those bonds deeply.
Greg found joy in many pursuits. He loved skiing in Colorado, making countless drives back and forth in his truck bearing the license plate "SKI MACH" (short for Ski Machine), and he enjoyed golf, embracing both the challenge and camaraderie each sport offered. He was also a gifted creator who spent countless hours in his garage workshop bringing ideas to life. From stained-glass pieces and woodworking projects to handcrafted flower boxes, he took great pride in making beautiful and meaningful things with his hands.
Some of Greg’s happiest moments were spent traveling with Jane and their sweet, beloved dog, Daisy. Together they enjoyed countless road-trip adventures, especially to Mackinac Island, New Orleans, and Door County, where Greg and Jane recently purchased a home to enjoy following his retirement. Greg loved the journey as much as the destination, always eager to explore a scenic route, discover something new, or pull over to admire a beautiful view. No matter where the road led, he never missed an opportunity to stop and look up at the stars, finding wonder and peace in the night sky.
His curiosity seemed limitless. Greg was a treasure trove of random facts and interesting tidbits, always ready with a story, a lesson, or a conversation. His knowledge, humor, and genuine interest in the world made him unforgettable to all who knew him.
Greg’s legacy lives on in the stories he told, the things he created, the miles he traveled with those he loved, and the lives he touched along the way.
