Irene was a long time resident of Chicago’s Northwest side. After completing her education at Holy Trinity Grammar School and Holy Family Academy, she had a career as an Executive Secretary for the Chicago Daily News, Chicago Sun Times and Container Corporation before concluding her career with Hart Schaffner Marx.
Irene enjoyed the numerous cultural opportunities Chicago provided. She always made an effort to attend exhibits, was a long time subscriber to the Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera and enjoyed partaking in numerous community activities. She was proud of her garden and loved her flowers. One of her neighbors, although not knowing Irene, called her “the lady at the end of the block with those beautiful flowers!”
Visitation will be held at Malec Funeral Home, 6000 N. Milwaukee Ave. from 3PM to 8PM on January 21 and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Tarcissus Church at 11:30 on January 22 with internment at Marvhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Irene’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society and St. Tarcissus Parish and are greatly appreciated. www.malecandsonsFH.com
