As a child, she had a dream to come to the United States. In 1965, her dream came true and she settled on the north side of Chicago in Andersonville where she raised her four children with her beloved husband, Manuel.
Bertha worked at Edgewater Hospital and later as a sales rep for Avon. She was a member of the Hermandad Del Senior Los Milagros de Nazarenas, and an administrative assistant for St. Ignatius, Church of Chicago. As a faithful parishioner of 53 years at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, she participated in the church choir and as a Eucharistic Minister. Her main calling from God was to help poor and disadvantaged children. She was also a devoted Cubs fan and an excellent Peruvian Cook.
She is survived by her children Manuel Antonio Calderon, Elizabeth Margarita Calderon David Marcos Calderon and Barbara J. Treadway and her grandchildren, Marcus Calderon, Antonio Treadway, Tommy Treadway, Giselle Calderon, Vanessa Calderon and David Calderon; her son-in-law, Michael J. Andrews, as well as Noel Borrero and other extended family from her homeland of Peru.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Manual A. Calderon; her parents Isolina and Marcos Mendoza; her dear brothers Carlos Mendoza and Marcos (Choco) Mendoza and her dear sister Haydee Mendoza all of Lima, Peru.
She will be missed and we will always hold her in our hearts.
