James “Jim” Matthew Mc Comb, of Chicago, Illinois age 45, passed away on June 15th, 2023 . He is preceded in death by his mother Cheryl nee Banker, and his brother Michael R. Jr., his aunts Janice Banker and Jeanine O’Hara. He leaves behind his beloved father, Michael R. Sr., Retired CPD Sgt., Jim’s two incredible children Owen and Genevieve, whom he always said were his heart and soul, his adored sister-in-law Kathy (nee Heneghan) Mc Comb. Jim loved his nephew and niece, Matthew and Erin Mc Comb and was so proud of the adults they have become. He leaves behind a huge group of lifelong friends no matter the time or the distance. The Tubby Melons dart crew that he enjoyed years of laughs and shenanigans with, a solid group of kids where he earned his “Giraffe” nickname and the friendships he formed with the kitchen crew making pizzas over at Fox’s Beverly location on Western Avenue. He will be missed by so many including his uncle Mike O'Hara, uncle Joe Walsh (late Bobbie) and Ted Banker (late Pam), cousins BJ, Tina, Bill, Matt, and Jill.
Jim was a proud member of Local 399 International Union of Operating Engineers for over 20 years, a Mount Carmel graduate class of ’95, and was raised in the St. Christina Parish and the baseball fields of Mt. Greenwood Park. Jim was a South Side guy at heart with North Side roots. He was a huge fan of anything Adidas, Puma, his beloved Chicago White Sox, and while he had high hopes for the Chicago Bears every season he always looked forward to the football season. Jim’s favorite days were those spent with the loves of his life, Owen and Genevieve. Whether it was poolside or riding bikes up to the park and watching his babies grow into the talented athletes that they are today. They were his pride and joy and he cherished every moment he spent with them. When you think of Jim you cannot forget about the music that moved him, from Deftones, to Tool, with a side of A Perfect Circle and NIN, to Queens of the Stone Age and you can’t forget some good old 90’s rap.
We hope that when you think of Jim, you are reminded of the love that he had for his family and friends, his giant heart and Mc Comb dome, and that the memories you shared with him brings a smile to your face and peace in your heart. We pray that Jim is safely at home in heaven with his mother Cheryl and his brother Mike, we will miss him forever.
In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to honor Jim's memory is respectfully requested to make a contribution to Owen and Genevieve McComb's education fund in C/O Kristin Hogan, their mother or via the GoFund Me account created by their family and friends.
