Jason was born on February 14, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois to Jack Arends Sr. and Sheila Arends (Burke). Jason devoted his life to helping people and started his career as a social worker, counseling troubled youth. In 1998 Jason graduated from the Police Academy and spent the next 24 years serving the city of Chicago and protecting all who had the honor to meet him. To his family and friends, he was a rock. The person they could count on to help them with anything, anytime of day. While he rarely showed his true self to the world, those who were close to him are so blessed to have experienced his huge heart, his jokes and the many stories he concocted and tried to fool us into believing. From mound ball, to dollar bets and the globe heist, every day with him was an adventure.
In 1998 Jason met his fiancé and best friend, Caryn Stets and they built their life together with their “boys”, Murphy and Blizzard. Jason is survived by Caryn, his princess; his parents, Jack and Sheila Arends; brother Jack Arends Jr. and his wife Debbie; nephews Ryan and Eric; his godchildren, Paulyna Aryee and Ryan Arends; the Stets, Aryee, Albano and Schmidt families, aunt Kathleen Heraty (Tom); cousins Patrick and Molly, John Redfield (Tonya), David Redfield (Michelle), Susan Serafin (Tony); John Kerkemeyer (Kim); Terry Richcreek (Ed); Kara Costigan (Joe). Jason is predeceased by his beloved sister Michele Arends.

Some people come into our lives
and quietly go...
Some stay for a while
and leave footprints on our hearts,
And we are never,
ever the same.
