Joan Bober, born in 1932, passed away on November 23, 2024, at the age of 92. Joan’s early years were filled with memories of fun and adventure. As a teenager, she would meet with her girlfriends and go to the Chicago Theater every Saturday for live entertainment. She attended St. Stanislaus School for Girls, where every Friday afternoon, students were allowed to bring their siblings to watch a movie at the school. Joan often took her brother, Ron, and her other brother Stephen to these screenings.
At the age of 15 or 16, Joan worked for a bakery, lying about her age to secure the job. On August 18, 1951, she married Marty Bober, and together they built a life that began on Ashland Avenue in a three-flat building. They later moved to Dolton, where Marty would shovel snow and cut grass and often worked late.
From Dolton, they eventually moved to Huntley, Illinois, where they enjoyed the peaceful life of a Del Webb community. Joan was passionate about traveling, and she loved taking road trips with Marty. They drove to Alaska, Mexico, and many other destinations by car, creating lasting memories along the way. Joan was also known for her love of the casino, where she enjoyed playing the slot machines. While Marty would often lose, Joan was known to come out a winner.
Joan will be remembered for her spirit of adventure, her love of family, and her dedication to her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories with those who were fortunate enough to know her.
