

John N. Rowan was born on October 21, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois. John was a devoted husband to Maureen G. Rowan (Marbach) for 45 years. Living his entire married life, in the home he raised his family, in Evergreen Park. John was a strong and supportive father to three daughters Jennifer (Erik) Harkey, Monica Rowan (John Gustavfson) and Nicole Rowan. He adored and cherished his two beautiful grandchildren, Charlotte and Xavier Harkey. John was an honorable brother to Norma Weinthaler (the late Herb Weinthaler), Nina (Ken) Bevan, James (Cathy) Rowan and the late Jeff Rowan. He was best friends with his brother-in-law, Paul Marbach. John was also coveted by all of his favorite nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Lenora Rowan and his beloved dog, Roxy.
John grew up in Chicago and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1978. It was there he met and fell in love with his beautiful wife Maureen. John and Maureen spent 45 years married, providing the example of faithfulness, honor, generosity and love. He cherished his racquetball pals, many friends, neighbors, co-workers, and fraternity brothers. John proudly spent his career in the Insurance Industry. He worked very hard and selflessly to provide for his family, having a little fun along the way.
We will all have many special memories of John and are blessed to have had him in our lives. We will remember him as a selfless and supportive brother. He enjoyed family birthday parties with his siblings and nieces and nephews. We will remember John as the world's best softball Dad and coach to three daughters as well as a basketball referee. He was the biggest fan at all of their sports events and academic achievements. He then became a softball umpire for the love of the game. John was always there for his beloved wife and daughters, being a solid rock, supporter in all endeavors, giving and helping endlessly.
John enjoyed travelling with his wife Maureen. He loved planning surprise trips to enjoy with her. John was a wonderful Grandpa and had fun traveling with Charlotte and Xavier, playing catch in the pool, and playing games, especially Uno. He lived for his family selflessly.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for July 12, 2024, at Most Holy Redeemer in Evergreen Park, visitation 11:00 am, memorial mass at 12:00 pm. Come wearing your favorite party shirt. We would like to be together to celebrate the wonderful life of John N. Rowan.
