

Jose Riesco Sr., age 91, of Chicago passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024 at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Jose was born on July 15, 1933 in Guantanamo, Cuba to Juan and Maria (Alvarez) Riesco. He was raised in Cuba and owned Pepin’s Grocery Store for many years. Jose married Zaine Dabul on June 24, 1958 in Cuba. The family immigrated to Chicago in 1971. He opened Candys Grocery Store and operated it for over 20 years. Jose’s faith was deeply rooted in his Catholic traditions. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting and gardening, where he was well known for his tomatoes and cucumbers. Jose loved life and sharing his love during social activities with family and friends. This was very evident in his rousing games of Cuban Dominoes. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by, his parents; his wife, Zaine; his son, Jose Jr. and two brothers and sister in laws, Emilio (Aurora) and Miguel (Vicenta).
Jose is survived by, his daughter, Maria (Roberto) Tapia; nine grandchildren, Lysset, Melina (Chris), Jackie (Trevor), Miguel, Samantha, Grayson, Jose III, Julita and Juan-Elias; a great grandson, Joey; his brother, Juan (Isabel) Riesco as well as many nieces, nephews other family and friends.
A visitation for Jose will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Avenue, Chicago, IL. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the funeral home on Friday at 12:00pm. Burial will take place at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 North Ravenswood Drive, Chicago, IL at 1:00pm.
