Jose: You were always the life of every party!

Tio, what can i say. 
It breaks my heart to see what has happened to our family in the last 4 years. You and grandma were the glue to our tiny family. I know in my heart you would never stand for all of this division amongst us. You would make us all talk it out. And none of what has happened would’ve even been able happen. I only pray you and grandma can help to reunite us, Dabul’s are better than this. We love hard and we love forever. Miss you more than ever.

What a day this was!! Missing you brother in law!

Thinking of you, almost daily we share something you taught us or how you made us laugh.

Thank you for sharing your wisdoms not just with my siblings but with my husband.

Laughing, ...telling stories
Didn't have time to say goodbye,
...and for that, many sorries.

Going smelt fishing on the lake of Michigan,
Alex... you would call me, to listen to your narration.

All the questions I would ask you,
...from refinishing my wooden floor,
to being 16 and about the girls coming through Candy's grocery store.

We laughed mostly, and serious sometimes,
We argued politics, history and read the  Chicago Sun-Times.

Eating La Sra. Zaine's mouthwatering Spanish rice,
From you I learned to be deliberate, to not just roll the dice.

Lessons about business, life,.. on your self-made picnic table,
¡Ay, mi madre! You would conclude, at the end of your fable.

Your storylines, made us cheer,
I, your humble cuñado, will always keep you near.

Un abrazo, to a good man.
Mi cuñado, I will miss.

Your genuine love, empathy, and generosity,
... are strengths of your robust legacy.

Rest now, cuñado.
We'll laugh together again,
On the otro lado.




Tio José was a man filled with pure joy. His humor and laughter I’ll never forget. His love for baseball is something I’ll always treasure. His unconditional love towards his wife is something I’ll always admire. His hospitality was a great example to all. He will be truly missed but his legacy lives on. I can’t wait to be reunited with him again in heaven.

Eternally grateful & thankful to be Jose’s Brother-in-law. Always joyful, telling stories and jokes. Everything good originated in Cuba 🇨🇺 according to Jose. 

Family gatherings were always festive with Jose. He had a tremendous gift of hospitality. He was always willing to serve and help. Everything was always better with coffee & a homemade sandwich. 

Enjoyed our discussions regarding religion, politics & baseball. Jose would always start “l’m going to be honest with you...” & he was.

Jose enjoyed fishing 🎣 & talking about fishing. He was excited for our boys when they began fishing. I remember Jose attending our Little League All Star game last year. He said it was one of the most exciting games he’s ever watched.

He will be missed greatly. We rejoice that he made his confession of faith to Jesus Christ. His video of being baptized in the hospital by his son lives on and is his living testimony. 

He is no longer suffering, receiving his heavenly body & His crown of glory from the King of Kong’s, the Lord Jesus Christ. 🙏🏼👑🛡⚔️

Jose Riesco was the best brother in law a man could ask for. I am a better person for having known him. Jose will be missed but never be forgotten. 
P.S.  Keep the Caja China hot Brother. 

Ac/dc , Metallica , cruising in a t top cutlass , sneaking a smoke , the cuban G, did you know more coconuts kill Puerto Rican’s than anything else , lissi don’t ever depend on a man for anything, if you can’t figure it out you call your uncle , always check the oil in your car , if a man ever raises his hand  to you you call your uncle , all you need in life is your family and some friends that become family , a good cup of coffee and a warm plate of food will cure anything that’s bothering you , you’re privileged to be cuban and Lebanese .... ok and a really little bit of Mexican , you listen to your uncle and buy a Harley before you get too old , faith can move mountains, you can be anything you want in life just never tell any one what your next move is going to be , love everyone and give everyone a chance but don’t be stupid , baseball is life, fishing is life , baseball , did i mention baseball and fishing ?, your kids come before anyone and anything in life , you’re a little crazy just like me but mostly like your mother 🙂 , there’s cubans and those that wish they were cuban , only we understand what it’s like to be the only two diabetics besides grandma in the family , beets are delicious , corned beef , beef hot dogs anytime everytime nothing else will do , hummus , falafel , you’re lucky to be Lebanese , give me a word or an object and I’ll show you how it’s cuban , lissi make me some báklava , you should always have a baseball bat in the car , i love you mama , lissi come over let’s have some coffee . 
I need you like i need air to live, tio i only had 40 years with you . This isn’t fair . I needed so much more advice . Promise me you will take me for another  cruise in the cutlass when i see you again . Give grandma the biggest hug for me . Te quiero con todo mi alma mi habibi .

Jose was married to my sister for over 37 years, I will never forget how happy he made her! 
When he was dating my sister, he took us along on their dates! Our favorite outing was trips to the arcade game room. Jose would hand us rolls of quarters along with snacks, it felt like we played for days. Another one of my favorite earlier memories was when he took my brothers and sisters to a downtown theatre to watch a movie. His friends treated us like royalty, we didn't have to wait in line and they let us sit in the closed balcony section after handing us a huge plastic bag filled with popcorn. He spoiled my sister and everyone around him! He held many gatherings at his home where he treated us to his awesome home cooking and the funniest stories ever. Jose also taught people around him many skills, he encouraged my husband to start DYI projects and helped built our deck. I remember asking him, "Will the deck last?". Jose looked at me and said, "Tita, this deck will be here after you and I are gone."
Jose will always be my favorite Cuban Brother-in-Law, thank you for the lessons, laughs, love and time spent.  

My Tio was the best person to ever walk on this earth ! Always made everyone feel loved you can’t say anything bad about a true walking angel. He loved his wife and children and sister and the whole family so much .  I love you forever pops you have no idea how much you will be missed! Mi vida . 

So grateful to have you in our lives!! Jose made the best sandwiches ever!! I was his online researcher;) “look it up!” He would always tell me. Always looking out for our well being!! Thank you Jose!! You were an amazing husband to my sister, loving father to my nephews and niece. Awesome uncle to all your nephews and nieces!! The best grandpa ever to your granddaughters!! Missing you so much!! 

I remember jr at candys store he was so big of heart ❤️ he made the best steak sandwich and  he was a great person with a smile on his face everyday he was a hard worker he will truly be missed sorry for your loss I remember his sweet little wife we lived right across the street 

Loving & devoted father, husband, brother, son and friend. Pepi was such a kind & beautiful soul; never complained, never in a bad mood and was always there for anyone who needed his help! We were so blessed to know him and share our lives with him!! We are going to miss his smile, his kindness, his wonderful, loving, caring friendship. We know that you are in a much better place with your beloved mother and favorite uncles. Rest in peace querido hermano. 


Jose was a good guy, and very funny he had a easy going nature about himself.  I worked with him on a couple construction jobs for my mother, and I.  I always liked him, and I felt lucky enough to call him a friend.  Descansa en paz hermano.  

José gave me my first job at Candy’s Grocery in the early eighties.  He also taught me to hunt and fish.  My favorite Cuban brother-in-law.  Rest in glory Jose.  We’ll work again, we’ll hunt again, we’ll fish again.
