She was married to Theodore Eugenides on September 13, 1958, with the marriage lasting over 15 years. Josefine worked as an independent hairstylist in Germany and owned her own hair design salons in the Chicago suburbs. She enjoyed art and created many watercolor pieces.
Preceded in death by her parents, Maria and Gerhard, and a number of siblings as she was one of 14.
She was survived by her children Alexander (Paula Senini-Eugenides), Michael (Lisa Cannon), Denise, and Catherine Reczek (David) as well as grandsons, Angelo and Kyle. Sister, Elfriede Peters, nephew Michael Peters (Michaela), great-niece Marina, along with countless other nieces and nephews in Germany. Fond aunt of Catherine Costello and many others in the Chicago area along with her closest friend Norma Eugenides.
Growing up in Southwestern Germany during WWII, she came from a large family of 14 siblings. They hid in tunnels during air raids and when they needed food, she would accompany her older siblings and cross the border into Austria and barter with the family silver. The American servicemen would always be sure to fill their aprons with candy before returning home to Trier.
Josefine met Ted in Southwestern Germany on an American army base where she was working as a hairstylist. Once married, they came to the United States in 1960 and settled in the Chicago area. She always wanted four children and over a span of 10 years she had them. She worked hard at raising her children and ultimately her passion by opening hair salons in the Western Suburbs. Her other interest was art, her watercolor paintings were beautiful. She also enjoyed cooking; her lasagna is famous in at least three states!
She ended up living in the City of Chicago for the last 30 years of her life. She enjoyed being within walking distance to everything in the city and attending the opera, ballet, theatre, museums and various restaurants. When she was able to travel, she visited Germany to visit her family as well as trips to the California Coast, Nevada, Colorado and a few other Midwest states.
Her crowning achievement, raising four children. Her life was difficult, but she was so very proud of her children as well as grandchildren. She was grateful for her children whom she loved dearly. After a long struggle with dementia, she has found peace in the heavens.
