Joyce G. Stanton

Joyce G. Stanton, 82, of Gurnee, Illinois, passed away surrounded by her family on April 12, 2025. Joyce was born on December 29, 1942, to Basil and Anna Gianopulos in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised in a Christian home surrounded by a large, loving Greek family.

Joyce met her husband, Carl Stanton, at the Northwest Church of God while attending their young adult group. They married in Chicago on June 23, 1968, raising their family in the same home Joyce grew up in. Joyce spent most of her adult years as a homemaker and caregiver to her three children and parents. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday school. She loved softball games at church picnics, miniature golf, musicals, autobiographies, and making pastitsio for big family parties. Being among family and church friends was Joyce’s favorite place to be. She was also an avid fan of baseball, particularly the Chicago White Sox. Joyce was fiercely loyal to Jesus, her family, and the Chicago White Sox…in that order! Joyce is survived by her husband Carl Stanton, daughter Linda (Richard) Cunningham, daughter Joy (Pete) Helfers, son Gary (Jessika) Stanton, brother John (Vasiliki) Gianopulos, sister Despe (Chris) Sterious, and beloved grandchildren Abigail, Melanie, Daniel, Nathan, Isabella, Timothy, Sofia, and Olivia. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Joyce was welcomed into heaven by her father Basil Gianopulos (d. 1985), mother Anna Gianopulos (d. 2006), sister Irene Galanes (d. 2013), brother Harold Gianopulos (d. 2017), sister-in-law Mary K. Gianopulos (d. 2010), brother-in-law Lambro Galanes (d. 2020), and sister-in-law Mary R. Gianopulos (d. 2024).

Visitation will be held at the Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL 60634, on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, with the funeral service immediately following.
