Karen S. Haring died Tuesday August 1st, 2023. Fun-loving, kind, and curious Karen was an original. Her savvy sense of fashion and design had her curating every space she was in. She loved antiques, fun finds at flea markets, and she brought her colorful style into mundane spaces. She was a master of the unexpected. Whether seeing her handmade jewelry, or her eclectic sweaters, you always knew you’d be asking Karen about how she came about her one-of-a-kind items.
Karen loved to cook for friends and entertain. During the time she shared a home with her friend Marjorie you’d go to their house for dinner and leave four courses later wondering how you ate so much food. Karen was a debater; she could talk politics for hours. You always knew what side she was on. She would look for the good in challenging situations. Even when she had been hit by a car; she’d joke well at least they didn’t back up over me. Karen traveled the world and made friends wherever she went.
Professionally, Karen had a long successful career in advertising, working for 30 years at Leo Burnett. As a Vice President in Research working on Kellogg’s and Maytag, she had a wicked sense of humor and her candor and willingness to share her unfiltered opinions were the hallmark of her success in research. After retiring she gave back by working in Constituent Services for the 43rd Ward office helping her neighbors. She loved cats and watching the birds, gardening, and all things craft beer.
Karen is preceded in death by her Mom, Dad, Brother, and two loving Aunties. She is survived by a Niece and Brother and many friends. The world is just a little less without Karen in it.
