Karen was born in Kassel, Germany on May 31, 1940 to Karl and Christa Weckesser. She came to the United States in 1961 to further her skills as a secretary by learning English. There she met Bob Mokran and never returned. She continued her job by assisting in her new husband’s business.
A born caretaker, Karen was over the moon to raise her children, and especially her grandchildren. Oma (German for grandmother) was a title that carried over into all areas of her life. Everyone knew her as such, as it gave her purpose in life. Family was everything to her, and she made herself available for every moment no matter how small.
Karen was always ready to enjoy a celebration, be it a holiday dinner with family or a night out with old friends. She filled so many nights with drinking, dancing, and laughter. She will forever be remembered as the life of the party.
She is survived by daughter Connie (Peter), son Peter (Tanja), and grandchildren Christina (Gabriel), Katie, and Miles.
A visitation for Karen will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM.
