Karl Alan Cremieux, 67, of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2025, with his family at his side. He was born in Chicago on October 8, 1957, to Arthur Glen and Marilyn (nee Turner) Cremieux. He was an Eagle Scout who graduated from Carl Sandberg High School in 1975 and from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1979. He earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Rosary College in 1995. Karl was proud to have served his nation in the Navy.
Karl is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Dr. Sally Reynolds; his beloved son, Scott Cremieux; his mother-in-law, Charlene Reynolds; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jeff and Gale Reynolds; his nieces Clair (Steve) Kueny and their family and Rachel (Curtis) Madjeric; his cousin Paul Botts; many other loving family and friends; and his loyal companion, Daisy Dog. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Scott; and his aunt and uncle George and Nettie Botts.
Karl was a stay-at-home Dad for Scott’s first two years and then went to work at Rush University Medical Library. He was an avid photographer and writer, and he loved all kinds of music, including the Blues, rock and roll, and opera. He was enjoying guitar lessons and always eager to learn new things. He promised Sally on their wedding day that he would make her laugh every day, and he did. He was very proud of Scott and the good man he has become.
Karl’s life was extended by the excellent care of Drs. Peabody, Sobek, Golden, Ciganek, and Zembrower. The entire family is very grateful for their amazing medical skills and their kindness throughout Karl’s extended illness. We are also grateful to the wonderful staff on 14W and the SICU at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Their professionalism and care made his many hospital stays so much easier.
Karl’s favorite quote was from Lao Tzu: “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
A celebration of his life, and his strength and courage, will be held on Friday, May 2, at 2:00pm, at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 East Chestnut Street, Chicago, IL 60611. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to PAWS Chicago or Lurie Children’s Hospital in loving memory of Karl.
