Kathleen Hamilton, 94, was born on May 24, 1930, in British Guiana, South America. She was the third youngest of 13 children. Her loving siblings were Stella (Brian) Heshon, Henry (the late Brenda) Tiam-Fook, the late Bala Mangru, Sonny Mangru, Narainee Mangru, Betty Tiam-Fook, Clarice Tiam-Fook Albert Tiam-Fook, Joseph Tiam-Fook, Ira Tiam-Fook, and 2 siblings who passed away at a very early age.
Kathleen’s greatest joy was her family, to whom she was deeply devoted. Kathleen was the cherished Wife of the late Raymond E. Hamilton and a devoted Mother to Paul Hamilton, Kelly (the late Russell) Modjeski, Kim (Paul) Henry, Raymond (Victoria) Hamilton, the late Robert (Khuloud) Hamilton, and Anthony Hamilton. She was an adoring Grandmother to Robert, Andrew (Mayra), Amanda (Tim), Jacqueline, Bradley, Eric, James, Hannah, Thomas, Natalie and Great-Grandmother to Connor. Kathleen was also a beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews scattered across the globe.
Kathleen’s life journey started in British Guiana through her early 20s, then to Aruba where she lived with her older sister Narainee (Moon). Kathleen then headed to England to join her sister Stella and continue her studies, however fate stepped in during a stop in Miami, Florida where she met her future husband, Raymond, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Kathleen started her new life and family in the United States, starting in Miami, then Portland, Maine, the home of her husband, and finally Chicago where she worked as a Bookkeeper for 30 years while raising 6 children.
Kathleen was known for her boundless love, kindness, humor, generosity, energy, and strength. She was an incredibly devoted Mother and Grandmother, always eager to share her time with her family. Her culinary skills were legendary, especially her famous curry, dahl, and stuffed roti, which she lovingly prepared for her family every week. Her life was enriched by a variety of passions, including listening and dancing to Calypso music (especially Harry Belafonte), sewing, cheering on the Chicago Bears each week, and playing Chinese checkers and cards with her family.
A guiding principle in Kathleen’s life was a quote from Shakespeare: “To thine own self be true,” a mantra she lived by and shared with all those close to her.
She peacefully passed to the Hands of God on January 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and is now in the care of the Lord.
...
While we will deeply miss our Beloved Mother and Grandmother, the love she gave us will remain forever in our hearts. We love you, Mom. Until we meet again. May you rest in peace.
