

Leokadia Kostka, 90 of N. Milwaukee Ave in Chicago, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday April 21, 2020, in the presence of her son, Stanislaw Karas. Born in Poland on February 20, 1930, she was the daughter of Marcel and Agnieszka Deszcz and had two sisters, Stanislawa and Krystyna. Both sisters had died at a young age, Stanislawa at age 19 and Krystyna at age 3. Leokadia was married 2 times; her first marriage was to Wladyslaw Karas in 1946 and died December 21, 1953. She then married Franciszek Kostka in 1957.
She first came to the United States in 1976, when she brought her grandson here from Poland, and then returned to her home in Poland. Then retuned to live in the United States in Cohoes, New York with her husband in 1980. Leokadia and her husband later moved to Chicago in 1982, where she would reside until her death for 38 years. She worked for Oxford Inn and retired in 1992.
She was the mother to her 4 children; Joseph (Halina) Karas of Cohoes, NY, Stanislaw (Zofia) Karas of Chicago, Ill, Krystyna (John) Cowin of Cohoes, NY, and Boguslawa Garlicki of Chicago, Ill. She was predeceased by a son in law, Roman Garlicki. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by family members in Poland. She was also predeceased by her husband, Franciszek Kostka in March 2008.
