

Luis was a beloved husband for 32 years. He worked for the Chicago Transit Authority and was known for his cheerful disposition and love for life. Luis was best remembered for his love of coffee, Chicharones, Tostones, and Jibaritos, as well as his obsession with lottery and scratch tickets. He enjoyed singing, dancing, joking, doing construction, and being surrounded by his grandchildren. He was also passionate about spiritual topics, frequencies, and meditation, and had a strong faith in God.
Luis is lovingly remembered by his wife Josefina and his children: Maria Matos-Burns and her husband Marty Burns, Flor and her husband Jim Steen, Carlos Matos and his wife Semra, Luis O. Matos, and stepchildren: Maria Zumba (Gustavo Tejeda), Jorge Zumba and his wife Karina Rojas, Javier Zumba and his wife Deloris Winters, and Jessica Zumba and her husband Aldrin Fernando Villegas Castañeda. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Daniel Ortiz, Akira Matos, Antonio Rodriguez, Erik Matos, Niko Matos, Drake Matos, Vanessa Tejeda (Tomas Martinez), Isabella Martinez, Melody Martinez, Jerimiah Cortes, Jose Tejeda, Jocelyn Tejeda, Yadira Tejeda, Miguel Tejeda, Tatiana Zumba (Rick Rios), Lily Rios, Catalina Rios, Hailey Rios, Arika Zumba, Sanaia Zumba, Javier Camilo Zumba, Patricia Zumba, Aidan Zumba, Matthew Martinez, Santiago Villegas, Nicholas Villegas, Avielle Brooks, and Xailah Brooks, and his sisters: Flor Maria Matos and Leyla Matos.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, located at 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. Prayers will be offered at 6:00 pm at the same location.
The Final Viewing and Chapel Prayer will take place on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at Malec & Sons Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Parish, located at 4432 N Troy St, Chicago, IL 60625.
Luis will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
