With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Margaret “Peggy” Anne Nugent, who left this world on July 12, 2025, at the age of 68. Peggy passed peacefully, surrounded by love, after a life filled with compassion, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those around her.
Peggy was born on March 11, 1957, in Laona, Wisconsin, to the late William and Margaret Nugent. Though her roots began in the quiet pines of Wisconsin, her childhood blossomed in the vibrant neighborhoods of Chicago, Illinois. There, she attended St. Cajetan Grammar School and later graduated from Mother McAuley High School. She pursued her passion for helping others at Loyola University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work a fitting choice for someone whose life would come to be defined by service and care.
For over three decades, Peggy called Bloomington, Illinois home. It was there that she raised her beloved sons, Michael and Kevin Pohlmann, with endless love and dedication. She was a devoted mother whose strength, guidance, and deep involvement shaped their lives in profound ways. Her sons were the center of her world, and she never missed an opportunity to support them, celebrate them, or simply be there with a listening ear and open heart.
Peggy’s kindness and empathy extended far beyond her family. A proud and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Peggy became a beacon of hope and healing for countless others across the country. Her tireless work within the AA community inspired many, and her ability to connect with others through honesty, warmth, and humor made her a cherished friend and mentor.
Never one to shy away from giving, Peggy also volunteered for many years at the local women’s prison, offering understanding, dignity, and encouragement to those society too often overlooks. Her belief in the power of second chances and the strength of the human spirit was evident in everything she did.
Peggy had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dogs, who were her constant companions and cherished members of the family. She showered them with love and treated them with the same tenderness she gave to everyone in her life.
Those who knew Peggy will remember her for her radiant smile, her thoughtful nature, her unwavering generosity, and the way she made everyone feel seen and valued. She loved nothing more than sitting around a table with her friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and genuine connection.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sons, Michael (Samantha Shultz) and Kevin (Alexandra) Pohlmann; her treasured grandchildren Tucker, Kathryn Margaret, August, Theodore, and Penelope, who brought immense joy to her life. She was the cherished sister of Richard (Denise) Nugent, Marybeth Cremin, Kathy Nugent, Laurie (Randy) Odzer, and Carol (John) Paral. She is also remembered with affection by her former husband and dear friend, James Pohlmann. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.
Peggy's legacy lives on in the many lives she touched—with her grace, her courage, and her love.
A visitation will take place at St. Cajetan Church on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 9am-11am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. All services will conclude after the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in honor of Peggy. https://www.hazeldenbettyford.org/
