Mary A Henry

Mary A. Henry (nee Breting)passed away on September 30, 2026, at the age of 76. She was born on September 9, 1950, in New York, New York. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Henry, to whom she was married for 41 years; her daughter, Sonja Henry; her parents, Donal and Ellen Breting; and her sister, Barbara Edwards.

A graduate of Northern Illinois University, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education and devoted her professional life to working with schools and nonprofit organizations. Through that work, she quietly made a difference in the lives of many people and communities.

She was an artist at heart who found joy in painting, sculpture, and gardening. She appreciated the simple, unexpected, and sometimes whimsical moments in life. Her friends and family will remember her creativity, sense of humor, and special way of seeing the world. She brought warmth, color, and creativity wherever she went.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her son, Joseph Henry (Karen); her sisters, Michelle Knapp (Gary), Diana Breting (Chris), and Donna Grimmer (Tom); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A memorial service will be held October 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at 1500 W Elmdale Ave, Chicago, IL 60660. Interment at Rosehill Cemetery will be private
