Born in Rockford, Illinois on February 22, 1985 to Janet Sarah (Pittenger) Keating and Timothy J Keating and brother, Nicholas J Keating.
He attended Fairview preschool, Rockford public School’s Montessori program at Lathrop elementary school and finished as a member of the first graduating class at the new location on Rockton Road. He attended Eisenhower Middle School for his middle school years and graduated from Auburn High School attending the Gifted program in 2003. Much appreciation to all of the wonderful teachers in all of these schools and programs. They tried to encourage a young man with potential but his issues overrode their efforts.
He earned a bachelor degree in a double major of Political Science and Spanish from Bradley University in 2007 and then a Masters in Urban Planning from Rutgers in 2010. He then went to work for the Tri-County Planning commission in San Diego, California.
Returning to Rockford, he applied and was accepted as a teacher assistant at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. Contact with people was hard for him, so he returned to Rockford. He applied and briefly worked for the City of Rockford.
His fight against depression, perceived worthlessness, and alcoholism weighed heavily upon him. He never knew what a wonderful person he was. He always felt that people picked on him and he felt he was deserving of the taunts. He took all of their criticism to heart. We will deeply miss his smile and sense of humor-wry as it could be at times.
If you know anyone suffering from depression/substance abuse, please let them know of their worth and how much they are loved. We can not save them always, but they need to know their worth and value. We love you, Matthew
No service will be held. In Lieu of flowers if a memorial is desired, please donate to Rosecrance or any substance abuse/mental health organization.
