In looking back at my Dear Father’s Life, I have several fond memories of my father. One that I remember is Papi would take us all to Whelan Pool, it’s not what it is today. It had a cross shaped pool area, with 3 diving areas high dives at the head of the cross area. My father would encourage me to go up on the high dive boards and for me to walk out to the edge of the board and dive off. Of course, my dad was waiting for me in the water below, he would tell the life guards that “I knew what I was doing”. He also told if I did Papi would buy me a hotdog from the snack bar of the pool. I’d climbed up and dove off, never fearing because my dad was there for me. His encouragement, knowledge of both diving and swimming helped myself and my brother Ed to win many awards competitive at both in the city. You see my Dad was one of Ecuador’s greatest Swimmers and Divers and he shared his passion with his kids. I enjoyed sitting watching the Olympics’, especially when those events were on. My dad and I would sit together and look for the minor errors made by the divers. He would always tell me to remember to point my toes and keep my feet and hands together so make a much smoother entry when diving. Thank you with All My Love for being “Papi”, God Blessed me our family with the Greatest Dad. I will always miss you, but I will toast you with loving thoughts on Father’s Day. God has taken you home to be with Mami, Shylita and your brothers and sister. You will always be in my Heart.
