Soon after high school, Mike joined the United States Army 23 Jun 70 and was assigned to serve in Fort Bliss, TX. Joining the armed forces was a turning point in his life and a decision that allowed him to go on to live the principled and venerable life that he did. He received an honorable discharge 22 Dec 71.
Mike then found his career calling on the Chicago Police Department when he was hired 01 Feb 82 and served in the 20th District mostly working with the plain clothes tactical unit (C Team) throughout the entirety of his career. He was an exemplary officer, receiving numerous accolades and honorable mention awards. Mike took extreme pride in being part of the CPD family even after his official retirement date 10 Sep 2014.
Mike was married to Alfreda for 22 years. During this time he was a role model to his boys to whom he taught the importance of a hard work ethic and numerous other invaluable lessons for everyday life. He loved spending time with them, especially if it included sharing a moment of a beloved Chicago team.
Later in life, Mike went on to enjoy the outdoors, especially fishing, but above all, he cherished spending time with his family, friends, and six grandchildren. He left a lasting impression on anyone that was lucky enough to encounter his dynamic personality at any get together.
Mike is survived by his sons, Adam (Karen) and Eric (Marjorie), and sister Sandie. Mike has six grandchildren, Ryan (10), Matthew (9), Nolan (6), Allyson (6), Kaia (5) and Nash (9 mos). He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
