Michael proudly served in the United States Navy and went on to dedicate more than 20 years of service as a Chicago Police officer. While he was a commanding presence wherever he went, above all else he was a devoted and compassionate husband, father, brother and son.
Mike Stepney always had the biggest cars, motorcycles, jewelry, and bravado, but he knew life's true emphasis is Love, always taught his children that Love is the top priority, and he displayed such Love with his words and actions everyday. He enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family, always loved to laugh, and cherished traveling with his wife - with whom he'd visited over thirty countries. Michael had a diverse, interesting, and informed world view that allowed him to gather and give wisdom to his children, family, and anyone he met.
With God's grace Michael was able to see all of his sisters before he passed. He was at home in the comfort of his own bed, surrounded by loved ones. The days prior to his passing were spent talking about the love we all share, and the memories we have.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife Gina (nee Go) Briscoe-Stepney, his cherished children David Stepney, Nathan Briscoe, Nicholas Briscoe, Deidre Stepney, and Donna Stepney-Johnson, his adoring grandchildren Aleah Burns, Nathan Briscoe Jr, Jai-li Briscoe, Roderick Johnson Jr, Darius Johnson and Diahnie Johnson and his loving siblings Denise Stepney, Rita Stepney, Corey Stepney, and Gaye Adams, his loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Michael's love, strength, and wisdom will live on through all who were blessed to know him.
A visitation for Michael will be held on Tuesday, December 9 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N Western Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625.
