Mona T. Konicek passed away at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Konicek. She is survived by her five children: Tracey Konicek, Lisa Kentala, Paula Ford, Victoria Perkins, and Steven Green, as well as eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mona was born in Chicago’s Little Italy at Mother Cabrini Memorial Hospital in 1932. She was a graduate of DePaul University’s Drama School and dreamed of becoming a stage actress. After marrying and starting a family, Mona nurtured this dream by teaching drama and being overly dramatic the rest of her life.
She will be lovingly remembered as the fun loving and quirky Grandma Mona as well as a unique one of kind mother who loved playing bingo, dancing to Motown, writing poetry, watching movies, reading books, wearing perfectly matched & color coordinated outfits, and sending in sweepstakes entries for her children and grandchildren. Her birthday and Christmas gifts were the perfect example of her distinctive personality and they always got big laughs from her family.
Mona was a fighter and a survivor who is now experiencing the everlasting love and peace that often eluded her on this earth. We will miss our Beautiful Mommy.
A Visitation at 9am followed by a Memorial of her Life at 10am will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Bensenville on September 13th. Interment will be at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
