Naomi L. Adler
January 11, 1927 – January 4, 2012
Naomi Adler (Cochran), 84, of Chicago, IL passed away on Jan. 4, 2012. Born Jan. 11, 1927 she graduated from Quincy College with a BA in English in 1949. She came to Chicago in 1951 to pursue a singing career. She performed as a professional soloist, and sang in numerous church choirs throughout her life. She also sang with the Lyric Opera Chorus in 1966 and '67 and later with The Chicago City Chamber Chorus. Naomi taught public school in Calumet City from 1953 to 1955, and studied at Roosevelt University where she met her husband, Carl. After studying Library Science at Northeastern University, Naomi became the Information Technology Librarian at The 1st National Bank of Chicago in 1969, serving in that position for 19 years. While there she was an enthusiastic member of The Bank Notes chorus. Upon retirement, Naomi devoted herself to volunteering as a librarian at the Methodist Home for 14 years, establishing a lending library for residents. Naomi was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She loved books, and was a talented artist, but her greatest passion was music. She was a kind-hearted woman, contributing faithfully to countless charities. Most important to her though were her family and the people she met throughout her life who she loved, supported and encouraged with an eager optimism and an open mind. She is survived by her husband Carl; daughters Eva and Lorica (Mark Sidoryk); her beloved granddaughter Nikita; members of the Adler, Babecki and Becker families in Chicago, and her faithful cat Emmy. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Best Friend's Animal Shelter or the American Action Fund for Blind Children & Adults. Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Drake & Son Funeral Home. Funeral is Monday, Jan. 9, 10 a.m. at Drake & Son Funeral Home. Interment directly following at Rosehill Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Drake & Son Funeral Home, Chicago, IL, 773-561-6874.

I just came across Naomi's beautifully written obituary and am very sorry that I missed her services.
It was my honor to have sung with Naomi for many years when we were in "The Bank Notes." She was a beautiful, classy lady who had a generous nature. Naomi always had a smile on her face and impressed our audiences with her great talent and gorgeous voice.
I offer my sincere condolences to her husband and family. May God bless you and comfort you during this difficult time. Naomi is now singing with all the other angels in God's choir.

Our fondest memory of Aunt Naomi is her beautiful singing of One Hand One Heart at our wedding. It still gives me chills when I replay the video. She was a very kind and caring person and we will miss her very much.

On behalf of my parents, George and Christa Johnstone and myself (Kathi), we have you in your prayers and thoughts at this time. Mrs. Alder was always good to me, with a smile on her face and a gentle tone. She would draw my stuffed animals and then I would hang the pictures up in my room. There were times when she would call me when I was playing with Lorica and she'd aske me to help her with German pronounications for some music. I loved hearing the piano playing. I even met her once as an adult at a Scottish Festival, it was a surprise to know that she had the same hertiage as myself.
Thank you, Mrs. Adler for being apart of my childhood.
