Paul John Bernatek

Paul John Bernatek, age 85, of Chicago, IL; passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Beloved husband of Jacqueline (nee Leonard); loving father of Karen (Ken) Adent and Daniel (Vikki) Bernatek; cherished grandfather of Katelyn (George) Antonopoulos, Tom (Emma) Adent, Tim Adent and Nick Adent; proud great-grandfather of George and Grace Antonopoulos; fond son of the late Paul and Chestra Bernatek; dearest brother of the late Ken (Phyllis) Bernatek, Margaret (Rich) Fedyniak, Marsha (Ron) Urzendowski; caring uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a proud Army Veteran and retired Chicago Police Detective who devoted many years to serving his country and his community. He will be remembered for his strong character and sarcastic sense of humor. His unmistakeable whistle could be heard from down the block when it was time to come home and his enthusiasm for sports was evident whether he was coaching a team, watching a game on television, or cheering from the sidelines. He was never shy about voicing his opinions to referees and coaches alike, often with equal volume and enthusiasm. His passion, his voice and his unwavering presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will remain with his family always.

A Memorial Mass for Paul will take place on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 10am at Queen of Martyrs/St. Gianna Parish, 10233 S. Central Park Avenue, Evergreen Park. Interment private. Arrangements entrusted by Andrew J. McGann & Sons Funeral Home.
