Pui Har Mui Lau passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the age of 86. Born on March 15, 1935 in a small village in China, she was the third child born out of four siblings. Her parents and siblings immigrated from China to the United States in the mid 1950s to to pursue the American Dream, while she enrolled as a student in Jenne Dress Cutting Girls' School in Hong Kong, successfully graduating in September of 1957.
On December 23, 1961, she married Chiu Lau in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and gave birth to her son Marvin in 1962. Her daughter Sally was born in 1964 in Chicago, Illinois where they chose to begin their new life in America. While her husband worked as a restauranteur, Pui Har Mui Lau devoted her time to raising their children at home; later on in her life, she was hired to work at a company called Switchcraft. Throughout her life she enjoyed sharing the vegetables that she tended to in her garden and chatting with the friends she made in her adopted country.
Pui Har Mui Lau built her life upon the foundation of hard work and was cherished by her friends and family it's clear to see in the collection of photos she kept close to her that she loved and was loved in return: The photographs of her vibrant garden reveal that the world was touched by the care she bestowed upon the earth, the ones of her and her family reveal snapshots of the everlasting love that she was surrounded in, and those of her with her friends reveal the impenetrable bonds that lasted the span of a lifetime. Pui Har Mui Lau paved her path in life with the entirety of her heart and her unwavering strength, cementing a long life that will be both deeply missed and celebrated by those that knew her. She is survived by her son Marvin; daughter-in-law Cristina; her daughter Sally; son-in-law Joseph and her two granddaughters, Kiana and Sabrina.
A visitation and funeral service for Pui Har Mui Lau will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Avenue, Chicago. Illinois 60625. A service at the cemetery will take place afterwards at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 4101 South Oak Park Avenue, Stickney, Illinois 60402.
