Ricarda Salazar

Ricarda Salazar, 79, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on June 4, 2026. Born on February 7, 1947, in Durango, Mexico, Ricarda was fiercely independent, strong, and extremely hardworking. Desiring a better future for her first two children, Mela and Hugo, she made the difficult and courageous journey to Chicago to find work. As a single mother, she showed extraordinary devotion to her family. While Mela and Hugo were initially under the loving care of her parents back home, Ricarda worked tirelessly to send her earnings back to support them. Through sheer determination, she successfully collected enough money to bring them to Chicago so they could be reunited. After establishing her new life in the United States, Ricarda welcomed two more children, Linda and Juan. Driven by an unmatched work ethic and a lifelong strive for success, she managed to raise all four of her children—Mela, Hugo, Linda, and Juan—on her own. On top of this incredible feat, she purchased three homes: one in Villa Unión, Durango, Mexico; one on Chicago's Campbell Avenue; and her home in Maywood, Illinois. Her children and her houses were her absolute pride, joy, and life. She loved being hands-on and was always fixing something around her properties; it was her passion, she enjoyed every minute of it, and maintaining her homes was a true labor of love. Ricarda was the steady anchor of her family—the one everyone came to for anything. Over the years, she opened her doors and took many sisters, cousins, nieces, and nephews into her home to live, firmly believing in her favorite saying, "Donde come uno, comen todos" (Where one eats, everyone eats).

While her heart was endlessly generous, she was also a vital voice of reason, always reminding those she loved that they also had to work hard to get ahead. Her profound strength, resilience, and fierce love leave an enduring legacy.

She is survived by her loving mother, Paublita Uzueta; her four children: daughter Manuela "Mela" Salazar Reyes (Joel Reyes), son Meliton "Hugo" Salazar (Patricia Salazar), daughter Linda Lopez-Urbina (George Urbina), and son Juan Lopez Jr.

She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Javier Luna Jr., David Luna, Brian Luna, Avelina Cariño, and Samantha Salazar; three sisters, and one brother.

Ricarda was preceded in death by her father, Atilano Salazar, who passed away in 1998; her grandson, Meliton Angel Salazar, who passed away in 2019; her sisters Ramona Salazar and Eurcina Rosado; and her firstborn daughter, who passed away two months after birth.

Nacida el 7 de febrero de 1947 en Durango, México, Ricarda se caracterizó por ser una mujer sumamente independiente, fuerte y trabajadora. Con el deseo de brindar un futuro mejor a sus dos hijos mayores, Mela y Hugo, emprendió el difícil y valiente viaje a Chicago en busca de trabajo. Como madre soltera, demostró una devoción extraordinaria hacia su familia. Mientras Mela y Hugo quedaban inicialmente bajo el amoroso cuidado de sus abuelos en su tierra natal, Ricarda trabajaba incansablemente para enviarles sus ganancias y mantenerlos. Gracias a su gran determinación, logró reunir el dinero suficiente para traerlos a Chicago y reunirse con ellos. Tras establecer su nueva vida en Estados Unidos, Ricarda tuvo dos hijos más: Linda y Juan. Impulsada por una ética de trabajo inigualable y un afán constante de superación, logró criar ella sola a sus cuatro hijos: Mela, Hugo, Linda y Juan. Además de este logro increíble, adquirió tres casas: una en Villa Unión, Durango (México); otra en la avenida Campbell de Chicago; y su hogar en Maywood, Illinois. Sus hijos y sus casas eran su mayor orgullo, su alegría y su vida. Le gustaba participar activamente en todo y siempre estaba arreglando algo en sus propiedades; era su pasión, disfrutaba cada minuto y el mantenimiento de sus hogares era una verdadera labor de amor. Ricarda era el pilar firme de su familia, aquella a quien todos acudían para cualquier cosa. A lo largo de los años, abrió las puertas de su hogar para acoger a muchas hermanas, primas y sobrinos, creyendo firmemente en su dicho favorito: "Donde come uno, comen todos".

Si bien poseía un corazón infinitamente generoso, también era una voz de sensatez fundamental, recordando siempre a sus seres queridos que debían esforzarse para salir adelante. Su profunda fortaleza, resiliencia y amor incondicional dejan un legado perdurable.

Le sobreviven su amorosa madre, Paublita Uzueta; sus cuatro hijos: su hija Manuela "Mela" Salazar Reyes (Joel Reyes), su hijo Meliton "Hugo" Salazar (Patricia Salazar), su hija Linda Lopez-Urbina (George Urbina) y su hijo Juan Lopez Jr.

También le sobreviven sus queridos nietos: Javier Luna Jr., David Luna, Brian Luna, Avelina Cariño y Samantha Salazar; tres hermanas y un hermano.

A Ricarda le precedieron en la muerte su padre, Atilano Salazar, fallecido en 1998; su nieto, Meliton Angel Salazar, fallecido en 2019; sus hermanas Ramona Salazar y Eurcina Rosado; y su hija primogénita, y su hija primogénita, que falleció dos meses después de nacer.
