If you had the chance to know Richard, you would know he was a strong, independent man. He was deeply invested in family history and proud of his Welsh heritage. Richard was full of interesting stories, often citing his adventures from world travel. He worked in accounting and finance, most notably for Evergreen Bank and Northern Trust Bank, until his recent retirement at age 83. He was generous to all who knew him, often opening his home to many of us over the years. On weekends, you could find him driving along the backroads, often heading to places like Starved Rock, where he could enjoy the outdoors and wildlife.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Davies (née Selden); father, William Owen Davies Sr.; sister, Lois Betty (Paul) Ziegenhagen; and brother, William Owen (Mildred) Davies Jr.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Edward (Linda) Ziegenhagen, Steve Ziegenhagen, Karen (Chris) Lock, and Barbara Nikodym. He is also survived by his great-nieces and nephews: David (Michelle) Ziegenhagen, Kristin (Mark) Rogers, and his great-great-nieces and nephews: Ava Ziegenhagen, Hailey Rogers, and Owen Ziegenhagen.
Interment of his ashes will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in the family plot during a private ceremony. An intimate celebration of life will be arranged at a future date.
