OBITUARY

Richard Carl Erickson

July 31, 1939December 23, 2020

Richard Carl Erickson, Age 81, of Alsip Illinois passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday December 23, 2020. He is preceded in death by the Love of his life, the late Kathleen “Kitch” Erickson (nee Drobitsch). Loving father of Sarah Erickson and Rick (Anna) Erickson. Loving Grandfather of Jane, Michael and Grace Erickson. Beloved son, brother, brother in-law and uncle.

He was a noted daredevil at Earl Playground in the 1940’s and 50’. He loved playing any sport that he could. Never the biggest guy on the field, he made up for in heart. He once fell out of a tree and had to learn to walk again. Never missing an opportunity to make his mother worry, he pushed his number up and joined the United States Army early. He was a proud member of the 35th Engineer Battalion in the 1st Infantry Division. As an avid skydiver in his spare time, he logged 24 solo jumps in Washington State. He came back to Chicago and was proud member of the Chicago Truck Driver’s union. He started working at Signal Delivery. He had a life changing encounter one day when he helped a young lady going into the office. He married Kathleen “Kitch” Drobitsch on September 25, 1965 and their incredible journey of life, love, and adventure began.

He was a fiercely loyal friend and neighbor who always loved to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved wood working. An expert drywall tapper and all-around Mr. Fix it, you could always count on Rich to give you a hand or lend some advice.

He was an exceptional father that gave everything he had to ensure his kids success. He championed education and made sure his kids did their best in their studies. He raised his kids to be honest, fair, smart, loyal, tough and merciful. His dry wit, wisdom and tales or driving a truck the wilds of Chicago will be greatly missed. He adored his grandchildren and loved to have them over to swim and hang out. They will dearly miss Granpa Rich and his endless supply of candy.

An avid conversationalist who would maybe let you slip a word in occasionally, loved to chat about anything and everything. He loved to entertain with his wife and host Christmas, 4th of July, birthday parties and random gatherings.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and is now reunited with his greatest love Kitch. He is finally at peace.

The family will be holding a memorial service at a later date due to the current covid restrictions.

Rich was amazing! We recently visited him for his last birthday. My 6 year old learned how to swim in his pool and he gave him tips on how to swim. And then my son taught him how to flip water bottles . We always enjoyed being in Rich's company. We love and miss you ❤️
