Robert Gary Zalazinski, born January 21,1947, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on August 8, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Diane, his favorite dog Muka, and 2 daughters, Karen (Willie) and Valarie (Derek), and 3 grandchildren - "Dotch" (Nick), "Bop-Bop" (Frank), and "Moroni" (Kati). Grandpa gave each of his cherished grandkids a nickname. He was a beloved son to Eugene and Olga and devoted brother to his 9 siblings, John Allen (Phyllis) Zalazinski, Joan (Gene) Bogdan, Sandra (Leroy) Seitz, Diane (Bob) Haza, Elaine (David) Mendoza, Eugene "Butch" Zalazinski, Sharon (Tony) Mazzocchi, Joe (Alyce) Zalazinski, and David Zalazinski. He graduated from Tuley High School in 1965. He was drafted in 1966 and from 1967 to 1968 he fought for the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. While in basic training at Fort Bragg, his best friend's sister, Ursula, gave Diane (his future wife) his address. From that moment forward, he and Diane courted using pen and paper. He came home, and on December 6, 1969, he and Diane were married. He was a gentle, generous, private, and pensive man who rarely complained. He loved his yearly vacations "up north" in both Tomahawk and Rhinelander, Wisconsin where he could spend hours listening to music while looking out at the water or building a fire for his grandkids on chilly evenings. There was nothing he couldn't fix and was often tinkering in his basement with a variety of do-it-yourself projects. Even toward the end of his suffering, he had an extraordinary will to live and fight. As Bob entered the gates of heaven, his grandson Frank is convinced that Dallas was waiting for him expecting his Milk-Bone treat.
