
Rosa Afanador, age 89, of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on March 29th, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 22, 1936 in Arecibo Puerto Rico, Rosa Afanador was the beloved daughter of Isabel and Emilio. She grew up in Puerto Rico, moved to New York in her 20s and later settled her family in Chicago, IL.
She was known for her kindness, strength, and generosity. Rosa touched the lives of many through her work as a DCFS social worker.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She found great joy in family gatherings and her faith. Some of her happiest moments were spent being with her family.
She is survived by children Fred Matos, Frank Matos, Debbie Afanador and Nancy Afanador. Her grandchildren Frank Matos Jr., Virginia Matos, Joseph Zuniga, Melissa Matos Domenech, Jurdon Zuniga, Jeremy Zuniga, Jasmine Zuniga, Devin Afanador, Robin Blake and Joshua Matos. Her great grandchildren Alexis Matos, Karime Domenech, Olivia Zuniga, Aurelia Domenech, Cameron Zuniga, Isabela Zuniga, Penelope Zuniga and Eliana Zuniga. She was preceded in death by Isabel Farias Lugo.
Rosa Afanador will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her love, grace, and the lasting impact she made on those around her.
Visitation will be held at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 West Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634, on April 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Her Final Viewing will take place at St Mary Of The Angels Catholic Church, 1850 N Hermitage Ave, Chicago, IL 60622, on April 10, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by Rosa's Mass of Christian Burial from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Rosa's Committal & Interment Service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL 60076, on April 10, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
