

Mr. Lober was born in Cissna Park, Illinois, October 24, 1930, to the late Samuel and Katherine Lober, nee Glabe. Ross graduated from Cissna Park High School in 1948. He subsequently graduated from Gallagher School of Business in Kankakee, Illinois. Later, he attended Northwestern University and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Mr. Lober met Valerie Carolyn Been at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago and the two were married there on September 7, 1991. After living in Chicago for several years, they relocated to Arizona for a brief time. They returned to Chicago in 1998 and lived together in the downtown area from that time on. They had no children.
Ross was employed by the International Harvester Company (later to become the Navistar Financial Corporation) for 42 years. Throughout his long career, he served as an accountant, a financial analyst, and a systems analyst. Most notably, Mr. Lober was known for his design and creation of the computer systems that were used for many years by the company’s financial operations throughout the United States. He retired in 1993.
Ross served in the U.S. Army during the post-Korean War era, from 1954 to 1956. During this time, he was stationed in Japan and served as a high-speed radio and telegraph operator.
Mr. Lober was an active member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, wherein he served both as a Deacon and as a member of the Session. During his lifetime, he loved to travel and took trips with his wife to Europe, India, China, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.
He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and even temperament. He was a kind and generous man, who was loved and respected by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Ross was preceded in death by his two sisters, Donna Lober and Marian (Ed) Peters. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Lober, of Chicago; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Banks, of Chicago; two nephews, Ron Peters of Watseka, IL and Scott (Donna) Peters of Endwell, NY; three nieces, Renee (Jerome) Epplin of Litchfield, IL, Donna (Marvin) Kellems-Blair of Watseka, IL, and Caroline (Michael) Slayter of Colorado Springs, CO; and, several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins.
Remembrances in Ross’s name, sent to the Cardiac Amyloidosis Program, Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates located at 133 Brookline Avenue, Boston MA, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 from 4 – 9 p.m. at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60625. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago, corner of N. Michigan Ave. and Delaware St. Following a reception at the church, interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery, 4001 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL 60613.
