With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Selena "Sely" Sanchez, who entered eternal rest on August 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of family after a courageous battle with ALS.
Born on February 4, 1989, to Baltazar and Leticia Sanchez, Selena was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, a city she called home throughout her life. From an early age, her creativity and warmth shined brightly. As a little girl, she could often be found styling the hair of her willing "clients," usually her cousins seated in a small wooden chair, unknowingly laying the foundation for the career that would become her passion.
Selena dedicated her professional life to making others feel beautiful and confident as a hairstylist in Chicago's Roscoe Village neighborhood. Her talent, care, and genuine connection with people left a lasting impression on countless clients over the years.
Sely embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. She was an early riser who found joy in nature's simple gifts. Whether she was hiking a scenic trail, biking through the 312 RiverRun, admiring the beauty of Hawaii, tending to her plants, or knitting something special, she approached every hobby with passion and patience. Her green thumb seemed effortless, and she delighted in propagating plants.
Those who knew Selena will fondly remember her vibrant personality and playful spirit. She enjoyed true crime stories and never missed an episode of Como Dice el Dicho. She also had a well-known love of shopping and would frequent Fabletics at Old Orchard Mall to purchase, exchange and return her latest finds.
Selena was a proud sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., where she formed lifelong friendships and bonds that she deeply cherished. The love and sisterhood she found within the organization remained an important part of her life.
Family and friends knew that Sely had a sweet tooth and could always count on her to have candy nearby. Her favorites were Swedish Fish and Twizzlers. Her selflessness was evident in her willingness to share her candy. She also enjoyed homemade empanadas, coconut tres leches cake from Kristoffer's Café and Bakery, and a morning latte that brought a smile to her face. She enjoyed her tia Patty’s taco salad and one of her favorite meal was pad thai, ordered at level 5 spice without hesitation.
Above all else, Selena's heart belonged to the people and companions she loved. She was a devoted wife, sister, niece, cousin, friend, and proud dog mom to her beloved Tyson.
Selena is survived by her loving husband of two years, Carlos Trejo; her brother, Caesar Sanchez; her cherished Tyson; and many loving tias, tios, primos, and nieces and nephews.
Though her time with us was far too short, Selena's kindness, laughter, resilience, and love will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her. Like the plants she so lovingly nurtured, the seeds of love she planted throughout her life will continue to grow.
Forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
Visitation will be held at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625, US, on August 16, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with Rosario there the same day from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
A Last Viewing will take place at Drake & Son Funeral Home on August 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Chapel Service from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
Committal & Interment will be at St Adalbert Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleums, 6800 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles, IL 60714, on August 17, 2026.
