Sonia J. Ringstrom

Sonia J. Ringstrom "Sunny", 76, Glenview, passed away on February 3, 2014 at home of complications from pancreatic cancer. She was born in Chicago on September 19, 1937, the daughter of Nils and Gertrude (Schmidt) Ringstrom. Sonia was a graduate of North Park Academy and the University of Illinois where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in zoology. In 1963 she joined the faculty of Loyola University where she taught for more than 40 years, attaining the rank of Professor of Natural Science. She earned her Ph.D. in biological science from Northwestern University, and continued to do reproductive endocrinology research there, publishing several papers. During the 70's and 80's she was actively involved in the Lakewood Balmoral neighborhood council, serving as president for a time. Sonia was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by numerous cousins and close friends. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 10 a.m. until time of celebration of Sonia's life at 11 a.m. at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago.
