Wanda Pappas, age 86, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020. Wanda was born in Bluffton Alberta Canada on March 18, 1933 and grew up on a farming homestead East of Bluffton in the Lavesta District. There was a spring next to the house that provided water for the family. The kids picked blueberries and sold them to the grocer for 5 cents per basket, all while maintaining good grades in school. The family had a horse that memorized the route and took 3 kids at once to school.
Wanda is survived by; sister Ida and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wanda was predeceased by her mother Martha, father Paul, husband Paul, brother Daniel, sister Erna and brother Reynold.
Wanda was preceded in death by her Mother who passed in 1936 from influenza, leaving her father and older sister Ida, then 8 years old to raise the family including youngest sister Anna, and all chipped in when time permitted. She moved from Canada to Arkansas and then to Chicago, where she attended college and worked as a bookkeeper in a Chicago Hospital and then for a baking company. She met her husband Paul, who preceded her in death, they opened a small business. She was a colorful person with a good sense of humor and would always have something to say in regards to all matters.
A visitation for Wanda will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 West Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634. A celebration of life service will occur Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM, 6901 West Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634. A committal & interment service will occur Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Elmwood Cemetery, 2905 N. Thatcher Road, River Grove, IL 60171.
