Perhaps his greatest source of pride and joy was being “Papa” to his three grandsons, Lucas, Dylan, and Jason. He treasured time spent camping, golfing, and watching their sporting events and graduations.
Wayne loved camping and traveling with Donna and competing in endless games of Boggle with her over the years. He also enjoyed golfing with friends, trains, reading, puzzles, old westerns, the Beach Boys, and teaching his grandsons life skills.
A true gentleman who always tried to do the right thing, never cursed, said what he thought, and served as a wonderful role model in marriage and in life. He was known for his big heart, smile, honesty, and strength- a gentle giant.
For nearly 50 years, he faithfully served Pilgrim Lutheran Church. His commitment was an important part of his life, generously sharing his time and talents over the decades. He also proudly served his country as a United States Marine in Vietnam.
Wayne fought the past two years and never gave up, deeply loved and supported by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by them, but his love, strength, and example will live on.
Visitation will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 17th at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 4300 N. Winchester, Chicago; service at 3:00 pm and reception immediately following in the church hall. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gary Sinise Foundation.
