Kay Camp was born Kay Fisher on October 4, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama. Shortly before she was in the first grade, she moved to Childersburg, Alabama. Kay was surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, at 81 years old.
Kay is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Camp (Childersburg, AL); son, Tracy Maddox (Ocean Springs, MS); daughter, Melanie Maddox (Foley, AL); grandson, Reese Royals (Virginia Beach, VA); granddaughter, Lindsey Royals (Foley, AL); and brother Joey (Linda) Fisher, (Placerville, CA). Kay was loved by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kay is predeceased by her father, L.M. Fisher (Pensacola, FL); mother, Catherine Parker (Mobile, AL); and brother, Mike Fisher (Mobile, AL).
Kay had a 25-year career as a social worker in Talladega County. She worked in several departments as a state employee, including Child Welfare, Child Support, and she became a Child Support Supervisor during her career. Kay was also on the Talladega County Department of Human Resources Board after her retirement.
Kay was an active member of the Methodist Church in Childersburg, Alabama. She was known for baking cakes and muffins for friends and people of the church. Kay enjoyed playing bridge, baking, shopping, caring for others, watching mystery movies, as well as being an avid reader.
Kay had numerous friends and extended family. Four of these special friends were Margaret Ham, Delores Meeks, Yebbie Roberson, and Sharon Maddox. She had known some of these "sisters" for 60 years.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Methodist Church in Childersburg, Alabama, on November 19, 2023. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm until 2:30 pm, and the Service will begin at 2:30 pm.
