Wanda Harris Harkins

Mrs. Wanda Harris Harkins age 65 of Childersburg passed away on September 22, 2011 at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Harkins will be on Saturday September 24, 2011 at 11AM at the First United Methodist Church in Childersburg, Al. Mrs. Harkins will lie in state from10-11AM at the Church prior to the service. There will be a 2PM Graveside service at the Ashland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday September 23, 2011 at the Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel from 6-8PM. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Survivors are Husband; Charles Hugh Harkins of Childersburg, Mother; Polly Gilbert Harris Farrington of Heflin, Sons; Ronald H. Harkins (Deborah) of Pell City. Frank Harkins (Deborah) of Mobile, Jimmy (Red) Harkins (Christine) of Childersburg. Eight Grandchildren, Six Great Grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins. Special friend Shawn Wilson. Pallbearers are Ty, Matt, Ryan Harkins, Matt Zedaker, Glenn Price and Eddie McLain. Honorary are Eric McLain, Jo Kenney, Jo Ann Blair, Linda Chandler, Shawn Wilson, Rita Stone, Sarah Johnson, Carrie Gore, Toni Brown and Judy B. Locklear. Mrs. Harkins was born on August 15, 201946 in Talladega, Al. She graduated form Cleburne County High School as Salutatorian, and she earned her B.S. Degree and Masters Degree from jacksonville State University. She then went on to study at the University of Hawaii. She taught for many years at Bibb Graves High school in Millerville and retired as counselor at Central Alabama Community College. She was well respected by former students and faculty and an enormous impact by her career. She was a member of Childersburg First United Methodist Church in Childersburg. She served as a trustee. Mrs. Harkins in preceded death by her father, James R. Harris; Grandparents; Rutherford Y. and Elizabeth O. Gilbert; Calvin and Bernie Caldwell. In Lieu of flowers donations can be make to Childersburg First United Methodist Church. Special thanks to New Beacon Hospice. Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.
