Alexander McKay died on February 23, 2015 at the age of 93 years. He was born on November 20, 1921 in Vancouver BC to parents Johann and James. He also spent many years in Surrey, Kelowna, and his last days in Hope, BC.
He was predeceased by his sister Christine of Seattle, Washington.
Alexander's final days were spent with immediate family surrounding him. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma, his three children James, Jane and Kathleen (Bruce), as well by his grandson Dawson (Leona), and his great-grandchildren Josiah, Jessy and William.
Alexander was a WWII veteran and a member of the RCAF. He faithfully attended Remembrance Day ceremonies until his health no longer permitted. He spent the majority of his working life at Viking-Alexander Metal Products in Vancouver, BC as the head machinist.
Alexander was a self-made man; he saw the power in investing and successfully retired at age 55. Due to smart investments and hard work, Alexander and his wife Norma enjoyed yearly winters in Mexico.
Both Norma and Alexander enjoyed playing golf together and planning their yearly trips.
He built every home the family ever lived in, from the house on Haig Street in Vancouver when he and Norma were first married, to the house in the Okanagan (Kelowna) where they spent most of their retirement years. Alexander was a talented, innovative, hard-working man who took care of his family. He will be sorely missed and loved forever.
At Alexander's request, there will be no service, however a Celebration of Life Memorial will be held and announced at a future date.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the caregivers and staff at Fraser Hope Lodge for helping Alexander and his family through some of the most difficult times in their lives.
