In 1962, Allen moved from Vancouver to Chilliwack, where he continued to reside until his passing. He is predeceased by his parents, Allen Sr. (in 2004) and Florence (in 1977) and first wife Irene (nee Monson, in 2013). He is survived by his loving wife Doreen, son Terry (Nicole) and daughters Tammie (Kent) Dodds, Shelly James and Sheri (Mark) Janssen. While working towards completing his degree, Allen started his teaching career in Chilliwack, at the young age of 20. He was principal for many years in the Chilliwack School District (SD #33) including schools Greendale, Unsworth, McCammon, Robertson, Rosedale, retiring from Vedder Elementary after 38 years.

As if being a principal was not enough, Allen started on an agricultural venture with his son Terry. Together they started layer chickens and later switched to broilers. Allen was also a part of the BC Agriculture Council and served as a dedicated Chair on the Board for nearly 10 years. He was also a valued contributor to many other committees in the poultry sector.

Allen was greatly loved by all, and the memories made will be treasured.

I enjoyed my years teaching with Allen as my principal at Vedder Elementary as I am sure many colleagues did. He was a very considerate man. Over his long career he worked with many teachers and support staff. I appreciate the family holding a Public Viewing Thursday, June 17th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and live streaming the Invitation only Funeral Friday for those unable to attend. My condolences to his family and close friends.

So very sorry to learn of Allen's passing. He was a well loved teacher and administrator with the Chilliwack School District. I shared many a story with Allen on trips in and out of Richmond to attend BC Principal's and Vice-Principals Association (BCPVPA) meetings. Although a few years older than me, Allen grew up in roughly the same area of Vancouver as I did (Byng vs Kitsilano). Over the years we served on many School District committees together, and whenever we met we always had something to talk about. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Allen was greatly admired by his staff (at several schools), colleagues, parents and students. My condolences to his family.
